The study of TCFL textbooks is widely carried out on vocabulary selection and arrangement、vocabulary recurrence rate、vocabulary gloss and vocabulary practices. Among these, animperative aspect is vocabulary gloss. New practical Chinese Reader preliminary level (book1,2), which is written by Mr. Liu Xun, is set as the main study objection. The methodology ofdocument literature, determination, quantifying and comparison are adopted as the main thread.The essay highlights the translation of meaning of new words combining with description andclassification of the current vocabulary gloss mode in the textbook. In addition, the reasons forclassifying are summed up. The paper is focused on pointing out existing problems and causesfor these proposing the principles of gloss mode and the reasonable suggestions for constructionof many faceted vocabulary glosses.The study of interpretations of new words in preliminary TCFL Textbooks is originated from aphenomenon of “Chinese heat”, which accelerated the development of TCFL. It is a new trendthat the number of low-aged-Chinese learners is increasing. Thus confronting with the newchallenge and chance, the essay is aimed to help the editors of the TCFL textbooks transformstrategies for the problems of gloss, to improve the qualities of textbooks, which will satisfy therequirement of discipline construction and Chinese promotion in new era.The essay is divided into six parts.Chapter Ⅰ is the introduction which mainly introduces the significance, contents andmethodologies of the research.Chapter Ⅱ is a brief view of the main study objection, New practical Chinese Reader, preliminary level (book1,2). It primarily defines the concept of the interpretations of NewWords and gives a comprehensive overview of research status and achievements of the study athome.ChapterⅢ emphatically describes and classifies the situation of the vocabulary gloss mode inthe textbook and sums up the reasons of classifying. There are two parts in the vocabulary gloss,in specific, the interpretation in the “word list” and the “notes”.ChapterⅣ is focused on pointing out the existing problems and the causes for these.ChapterⅤ proposes the principles of gloss mode and the reasonable suggestions for constructionof many faceted vocabulary glosses.ChapterⅥ is the epilogue which summarizes the achievement and limitations of the essay.
