Gate as the most import part of terminal, responsibility of container transport and it’s efficiency directly affects the overall operating efficiency of terminal. However, most current gate management system rely on manual entry and verify information. Not only result in the workload of gate staff was increased, also reduces the efficiency processing of inbound and outbound loads. Although some gate management system use a number of automated data collection devices for information collection and process control, but through the way of direct access to hardware devices to obtain data. It leads to a high degree of coupling between application and hardware. As devices manufacturers, models and specifications are different, it makes the system hard to maintain, and any changes will bring disastrous consequences.Firstly, the current status, issue and the challenge of container terminal gate business of Shanghai port are discussed and the necessity of constructing a OPOS(OLE for Retail Point of Service)-based container terminal smart gate management system is analyzed. Base on it, the customer’s business requirements are analyzed. Next, an discussion about the functions of the container terminal smart gate management system is performed, and main processes of container flow out of gate business operation are confirmed. Then, the architecture of smart gate management system is analyzed. And the key subsystems such as gathering smart devices operation data, gate management and dynamic distribute gate resources, operation monitor and exception warning are designed in detail. Meanwhile, based on OPOS technology, it is discussed the implementation of build abstract logical unit, data capture and process control and binding the device as node. Finally, the features and applied effect of the system are analyzed.
