It is generally accepted that Sino-Vietnamese words plays a keyrole in Vietnamese vocabulary. On the basis of the researches ofChinese words in Vietnamese, especially the first five works of “ChineseCourse” written by Yang Jizhou, the thesis focuses on the category andanalysis of the Sino-Vietnamese words in semantics, thus tries to helpthe Vietnamese students to make the best use of them to learn Chinese.The thesis involves the chapters as follows:Chapter1is the introduction of the theories and methods the thesisapplies, the target of the research, the outline and linguistic resources.Also it talks about the aims and conclusion and results of other formerresearches.Chapter2is the most important part of the thesis. It drawsconclusion of the statistics and categories of Sino-Vietnamese wordsfrom the five books of Chinese Study that there are631Chinese-Vietnamese words among2081words (not including theprofessional terms), which indicates that proportion of the Sino-Vietnamese words to the whole volume counts to30.32%, withinCategory I counting for67.04%, Category II for3.01%and Category IIIfor29.95%. Besides, the thesis compiles statistics about the morphemesin similar semantics and professional terms correspondinginChinese-Vietnamese words.Chapter3analyses some specific words in Chinese-Vietnamese inevery category, and figures out the effect on Vietnamese students.Chapter4is the conclusion, including the main outcomes the thesisgets and questions it raise to further research.
