My dear Andreas, a book of epistolary prose, was co-written by Lung Ying-Tai, a Taiwan author and her son, Andreas Walther. It is composed of the letters between them. I selected the first three letters of the book to translate. As the Chinese language and the English one belong to different language systems, there exist huge differences between them. The paper illustrates the translation strategies adopted in the translation of long sentences from Chinese to English. Therefore the paratactic Chinese language can be changed into the hypotactic English one. Thus translated long sentences from Chinese to English can be accepted by the readers of English. |
