As open course videos from English-speaking countries make it possible for Chineselearners to get access to the top educational sources in the world, translated subtitles, as atool to conquer the linguistic barrier, have always been indispensable for Chinese viewersto understand courses taught in English. However, subtitle translation for open courses,with its unique features and even higher demands, cannot be completely conducted byprinciples of film and television subtitle translation. Therefore, it is of vital significance todiscuss the subtitle translation for open course videos.Guided by the Eco-Tranlatology, the thesis utilizes the method of literature study, fieldsurvey and case study to discuss the subtitle translation for open course videos. Based onthe review of related academic achievements, the thesis takes advantage of theproofreading records collected within3months by the author while working for theNetease Open Course to sum up and analyze problems in the subtitle translation for opencourse videos and propose solutions. After that, the thesis selects an open course videowhich has been independently and respectively translated by Netease and Sina to confirmand supplement findings in the proofreading records and to analyze some translationphenomenon in the open course videos from a macro aspect.The thesis consists of6chapters. Chapter One introduces the background, goals,meanings and methods of this research. In Chapter Two, some previous academicachievements by researchers in China and from abroad are reviewed. In Chapter3, sometheoretical concepts are presented as Eco-Tranlatology is introduced to briefly discuss thesubtitle translation for open course videos. Chapter Four mainly discusses the subtitletranslation for open course videos in the Netease by summing up and analyzing theproofreading records to present the problems found in the open course subtitle translationand propose solutions. In Chapter Five, an open course video which has beenindependently and respectively translated by Netease and Sina Open Course is selected toconfirm and supplement findings about the open course from Chapter Four from a moremacro aspect. In the last chapter, conclusion which can shed some light on the subtitletranslation for open course videos is drawn. Innovation and limitation of the thesis are alsocovered in this chapter.
