The new generation of migrant workers is closely linked to the development of the whole society. And their impact on the society emerges gradually. However, they are in crisis of identity. Therefore, the issue of their identity must be solved during the social transition period. This paper focuses on the identity of the new generation of migrant workers on the basis of social constructivism. And we make a survey about the identity of the new generation of migrant workers in Beijing, adopting a mixed research method. As the characteristics of the new generation of migrant workers have changed, they will be in greater confusion while they are in the same environment. And this will influence their behavior. Then they will be in crisis of identity. Specifically, the crisis is embodied in the following three aspects:the contradiction of their identity classification, the contradiction of present identity ownership and the contradiction of future identity ownership. The new generation of migrant workers pursues the identity in the context of social system. But there must be contradiction between social construction and self construction in this process, which is the root of the identity crisis of the new generation of migrant workers. According to the investigation and analysis, the reasons for the identity crisis are as followed:the social distance arising from the contradiction of city life adaptation, the experience of relative deprivation in city life and the contradiction between the pursuit of the goal and the current status. We have to explore the way of solving the identity crisis according to the three aspects. Firstly, the new generation of migrant workers must improve their own ability. Secondly, the proper social environment must be created by the society, the government and the citizens. Thirdly, the government should provide good public products and services. Only in these ways, can the identity crisis of the new generation of migrant workers be solved. Therefore, the identity crisis of the new generation of migrant workers must be solved fundamentally, then it will be possible to make the new generation of migrant workers really melt into the city. And this just conforms to the central point of the social constructivism.
