The foundation and development of the socialist market economy enriches people materially, but at the same time brings forward a series of problems. The interest motivation of market economy and personalities that nurtures people’s development, usually confines to the loss and gain of individual’s interest and pays more attention to the material interest rather than peruse the spiritual aspects, which leads to the one-sided and material states during their development. The extensive development of China’s economy, to a certain extent, is based on the individual’s one-sided development. Therefore, for the sake of the full development of the society and economy, the abandonment of individual’s one-sidedness is greatly needed. Max’s thought on "Realistic individual" provides a beneficial insight into how to go through the difficult situation. Max’s thought on "Realistic individual", as a part of historical materialism, takes "Realistic individual" as the beginning of history development, explains the relationship between the development of "Realistic individual" and the development of the society, and reveals the individual’s development process and rule from one-sidedness to full-sidedness. Max’s thought on "Realistic individual" and its modern meaning, provides a significant enlightenment on the reasonable understanding of the relationship between Chinese people’s development and social development, the promotion of individual’s dull development, and the harmonious unification of the individual’s and the social developments. The paper, with historical materialism as its instruction, systematically explains the theoretical origin of Max’s "Realistic individual", the basic framework of its contents and the practical meaning. This thesis is divided into four parts:The first part explores the target that Max’s thought on "Realistic individual" criticizes. The formation of Max’s thought on "Realistic individual" has a direct relationship of Powell’s, Feuerbach’s and Stirner’s thoughts. Thus it is necessary to explain their thoughts respectively, that is, Powell’s "Self-consciousness" Feuerbach’s "Category" and Stirner’s "The unique".The second part explains Max’s blame on Powell’s, Feuerbach’s and Stirner’s thoughts. Max’s thought on "Realistic individual" originates from his blame on their thoughts and then explores their effect on Max’s "Realistic individual".The third part tells the basic frame of Max’s "Realistic individual", which includes the connotation and the basic characteristics, its important role on historical materialism and its enrichment and further development. The last part explains the practical meaning of Max’s "Realistic individual". It firstly points out the survival and developmental difficulties, that is, the loss of their belief and the phenomenon of their materiality, and then proposes that "Realistic individual" should be placed at the start when we are dealing with and solving problems,"Realistic individual" should be regarded as the start point and final destination of the social development, which propels the individual’s sound and free development and finally realizes the harmonious unification of the people and the society.
