Chinese language teaching in elementary schools in Tibet is animportant part in Chinese language teaching in our country which belongsto the second language teaching Category. The main nature of Chinesecourse is a tool and the humanities. As a part of Chinese teaching,Chinese vocabulary teaching plays an important role in the secondlanguage teaching. Vocabulary is the starting point to learn a kind oflanguage. Therefore, Chinese vocabulary is the key to learn Chinese,alsofor Chinese teaching.The author takes Hope primary school in Qiongjie County inShannan as a case and adopts three kinds of research methods which arequestionnaire, interviews and classroom observation.I hope that it ishelpful for teachers and students to have a deep investigation to the statusof the Chinese vocabulary teaching in the schools as well as discuss themethods and put forward some ones of vocabulary teaching and learning.This paper is divided into four parts:The first part proposes the reasons for electing this topic as well asmakes the purpose and significance of the research clear and thenestablishes the research methods. The reason for choosing this topic ismainly for the importance of Chinese vocabulary teaching for the Chineselanguage teaching in the primary schools in ethnic regions. The second part undertakes the relevant concept mainly discussingthe content of “vocabulary teaching”. It is to draw lessons for Chinesevocabulary teaching in Tibet to summarize the related researchachievements from home and abroad. Finally, the paper summarizes thetheoretical basis of vocabulary teaching from three aspects which are “thetheory of linguistics”,“the theory of the second language acquisition” and“the theory of context”.The third part is the status investigation in the Hope primary schoolin Qiongjie County in Shannan. The author investigates the status fromfour aspects which are teaching environment, teaching material, teachers’teaching and students’learning and than points out the advantages anddisadvantages of Chinese vocabulary teaching.The fourth part discusses the vocabulary teaching methods in viewof the status of Chinese vocabulary teaching, and then puts forward somesuggestions mainly from the two aspects which are the schoolmanagement and the teaching.
