Vocabulary teaching is an integral part in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language and a criterion to assess optimum textbooks as well. The vocabulary teaching activities are largely based on textbooks, which in turn directly influence those activities. Thus, what words should be involved, how they should be distributed and how they are tested in the exercises need sophisticated considerations. Experiencing Chinese textbook series for primary schools being the subjects, this paper summarizes vocabularies applied in the textbooks and makes a quantities contrastive analysis to see whether the selections of words and their distributions are reasonable or not, in the hope of providing some suggestions and enlightens for Chinese textbook compiling in ThailandThis paper summarizes vocabularies used in these textbooks from the following four aspects:First, it provides a detailed statistical analysis on the total amount of vocabularies in the series and that in each volume, the distributions of vocabularies of different levels, and vocabularies beyond the range of syllabus.Second, it reviews the characteristics, types and amounts of exercises, and furthermore makes some corresponding suggestions.Third, it analyzes the annotations of lexical meanings and part-of-speech tagging, and attempts to make some suggestions.Fourth, it reviews the relationship between Chinese characters and their meanings, and gives advice on compilations of Chinese characters.
