To Guide Students In Junior High School Chemistry Family Small Experiment Research

Chemistry is one of the natural sciences based on experiments, so the teaching of chemistryshould be aided by experiments. With the continuous development of new curriculum reform, thecontent of chemistry teaching is becoming more and more related to the real production andliving status. The traditional chemistry experiment teaching is more results-oriented instead offocusing on the process, which demands too much on the proficiency of basic experimentoperations. This is leading to many drawbacks, like far from the real life and lack of the spirit ofmodern times. Reform is needed to reflect the ideology of new curriculum reform. How toreform the traditional experimental teaching, to make experimental teaching better servechemistry teaching, has become the problems to be solved in the current chemistryeducationalists. The emerging of small experiments at home injected fresh vitality into thereform of experiment teaching. It not only provide new teaching methods for the currentchemistry experiment teaching reform, but also provide a new way for the teachers to practicethe education philosophy advocated by the new curriculum reform.In order to reform the traditional experiment teaching, create an open-minded chemistryexperiments, inspire the students’interests in learning chemistry, and cultivate the innovationmindset and innovation ability of students, the author conducted a study on guiding juniormiddle school students doing small chemistry experiments at home. This study could promotethe better understanding of small experiments at home by junior middle school chemistryteachers, provide references for them in the process of design and execute small experiments athome, so as to implement it more efficiently.This study selected the students enrolled in Liren Middle School (Jingjia Town, HuantaiCounty, Zibo City ) in year 2008 as study subjects. Guided by constructivist education theoryand subject development education theory, this study analyzed and organized the materials onsmall experiments at home, properly define the concept of small experiments at home. Based onthe Shandong version standard compulsory education curriculum experiments textbooks, thisstudy analyzed the design methods and design principles of small experiments at home,integrated existing research results to construct a teaching model in line with the characteristicsof chemistry, focusing on the cultivation of students’scientific quality. This teaching modelincludes the teacher’s arrangement of experiment subjects, the students’design of experiment plans, the implementation of small experiments at home and display and evaluation ofexperiment results. This teaching model also explored the new thoughts for teachers to guidestudents on small experiments at home, and conducted an effectiveness analysis on the students’attitude on learning chemistry, practical ability and academic scores after small experiments athome. This study is ended with a deep reflection on the problems in the process.By practical research, this study shows implementing small experiments at home in theteaching of junior middle school chemistry could greatly stimulate students’interests in learningchemistry and transform students’learning attitude. It is not only helpful in cultivate thestudents’observation ability, hands-on ability, innovation mindset and innovation ability, but alsocan substantially improve students’chemistry academic scores, which fulfill the objective ofcultivating students’scientific quality and ability.This study strengthens the applied research of small experiments at home from both thetheory and practice side. It provides some references for chemistry teachers to update teachingideology, reform the current junior middle school chemistry experiment teaching, andcomprehensively improve the quality of junior middle school chemistry education.
