Health is the basis of accelerating social development and building a harmonious society, which plays a decisive role in the development of both individual and society. Students are a special group and pillars of national construction concerning the state’s future as well as fate. A series of policies and measures adopted have been stipulated to promote their health. Confronted with great pressure from the national college entrance examination, senior middle school students spend their most time or even the whole day at school. For them, the physical education class is the only channel of undertaking physical exercise.The Criteria on Physical and Health Courses regulated in September of2001(shortened as new criteria) has been widely practiced in the whole process of PE lessons in middle and elementary schools.However, most P.E teachers are totally obedient to the new criteria, who emphasize students’ mental health such as subjective feeling and social abilities such as initiatives only to ignore their mastery of sport skills.This research was conducted through random questionnaire survey among the1400senior high students from five middle schools including No.1Affiliated Middle School of CCNU, East Lake Middle School, NO.1Development Zone Middle School, the Wuhan Foreign Language School and Qingshan Middle School. Meanwhile,100PE teachers from the above five schools were involved in questionnaire survey with the view of having a comprehensive understanding of the current situation of how the new criteria is observed and students’ physical status in quo. The results are as follows:1. Wuhan City middle school students’ physique condition assumes the drop tendency, physical quality and physical function of uneven development2. Middle school PE Teachers’ understanding of the connotation of health" more comprehensive.3. Middle school PE teachers in physical classroom teaching process on students’ joyful degree, weakening the arrangement of sports load, to a certain extent, ignored the effect on physical quality.4. middle school PE teachers for" the course standard of PE and health" carry out seriously very much, but they are the recognition of the new curriculum standard there are still limitations. 5. Middle school students in physical education class and did not fully participate in, their physical fitness consciousness still remains to rise.
