The purpose of this paper is a comprehensive understanding of the ability and problems of nearly form Chinese characters distinguishing by Thai university students. In order to observe distinguish ability of nearly form Chinese characters by Thai university students and Chinese characters teaching at present in Thailand on the conclusion of the paper. Then further study on the teaching countermeasures of nearly form Chinese characters distinguishing for Thai university students. In this paper, the Thai university students as targets, target selecting method is by using the allowable error rate of10%, data reliability of90%by Yamane Random sampling (1973) in the calculation obtained44targeted higher education institutions from79offering Chinese language major of higher education institutions in Thailand. We have selected9institutions in the northern region in Thailand,6institutions in the southern region,3institutions in the eastern region,1institution in the western region,7institutions in the northeast region, and18institutions in the central region. There are10representative Chinese language major juniors in each institution. The targets total is440representative students. But finally we have able take back only300copies of questionnaires, therefore the final allowable error rate as20%, data reliability being80%.The contents of collecting data tool (questionnaires) divided into three parts. The first part is to answer personal information; the second part is the Chinese character teaching status, the third part is the nearly form Chinese characters distinguishing. The survey results of the questionnaire hold simplified Chinese character as the point in higher education institutions in Thailand. Each university of course scheme is all specially offered Chinese character course. The Chinese characters course mainly contains strokes, stroke order, parts, character components and radicals. The main teaching methods are without-comprehending memorizing, much copy, Chinese characters riddle guess, networked Chinese characters memorizing, homophone group of words, nearly form component distinguishing, character finding from character. The result of the origin part of nearly form Chinese character distinguishing is the worst, the next is nearly form Chinese character writing, the best result is the nearly form Chinese character distinguishing.According to the results mentioned above, we have introduced5types of teaching countermeasures of nearly form Chinese characters distinguishing for Thai university students:1) the teaching method of Chinese character origin to distinguish nearly form Chinese characters,2) the teaching method of adding one stroke to new character,3) the competitions of the same group of Chinese characters, who write up the most characters to win the game,4) the teaching method of the groups of nearly form Chinese characters,5) the teaching method of contrastive analysis of nearly form Chinese characters.
