With the promotion of the "Education Strategy Ideas"----make the country prosperous and powerful through science and education, changing "Examination-oriented Education" to "Quality-oriented Education" has become a must to achieve the students’overall development. Therefore, English teachers’professional quality is the core and the basis of English teachers’professional development. The study can not only help to enrich the theory about high-school English teachers’ professional quality and further expand the whole field of high-school English education and research, but also improve the system of high-school English teachers’ professional quality English teaching quality in high school. Therefore, the paper is of both great theoretical significance and profound practical significance.Introduction focuses on the background, purposes and significance from the perspectives of the needs of society and education, the demands of new curriculum and the requirements of English teachers’ profession and the overall structure of the thesis.Literature Review is a review of the relevant theories to give a theoretical basis to the research, such as the concepts of teachers’ quality, English teachers’ professional quality and High-school English teachers’ professional quality. High-school English teachers’ professional quality includes professional knowledge, professional skills, professional ethics and professional affection. Meanwhile, it introduces the current situation investigation about the English teachers’ professional quality both at home and aboard.The present situation concerning English teachers’professional quality in senior high school in Xi’an city is looked through by making use of methodologies, including questionnaire, observation, interview, consulting references and so on. The subjects investigated are the students in Middle School Attached to Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology and Middle School Attached to Northwest University. Totally250students from50different classes and50English teachers took part in the activityThe datum got from the above four aspects of the research are collected, summarized and analyzed to find out the current situation of the high-school English teachers’ professional quality in Xi’an city to find out the main existing benefits and problems. Generally speaking, the current situation of high-school English teachers’quality can meet the basic requirements of the new curriculum implementation, while there still exist some problems, such as lack of long-term goals, inadequacy of knowledge scope, lagging in the renewal of notions, simplifying teaching methods, and deficiency in modern education technologies.Therefore, appropriate ways to solve the problems are given to efficiently improve high-school English teachers’professional quality in Xi’an city:1. Stimulation of teachers’ learning motivation, including enhancing teachers’ self-access learning and giving them more chances for further education.2. Optimization of teachers’ knowledge, consisting of widening English knowledge and enriching education knowledge.3. Enhancing teachers’ teaching skills, such as diversity and flexibility in teaching methodologies, improving teachers’ research ability, mastering modern education technologies and promoting teaching reflection ability.Finally, the major findings and limitations of present research are summarized, and suggestions for future researches are offered.
