With the deepening of the basic educational curriculum reform, the developmentand practice of school-based curriculums are becoming more and more important. It isbecause this kind of courses can make up the disadvantages of national curriculum toa large extent. Besides, school-based curriculums have a positive impact on formingthe schools’ own characteristics as well as improving the teachers’ understanding ofthe curriculum and teaching abilities. What’s more, they can also help in makingstudents personalized and versatile.However, the development of school-based curriculum of history lags behind fora long time. However, if we can take the chance of the curriculum reform by rewritingthe history curriculums according to the rich local historical materials while at thesame time adhering to the national courses centered curriculum, we can absolutelydevelop school-based curriculum of history a great deal. This paper is the under theguide of the outline of the basic educational curriculum reform, centered on thehistorical materials and aided by the teaching research. The author paid specialattention to the school-based curriculum of history that is combined with the localhistory and culture, to be specific, the school-based curriculum of history—Feelingthe Wu Culture—of Wuxi Furen High School.The paper consists of five parts: the first part is an introduction and some basictheories, including the origin and meanings of subject research, the definition of theschool-based curriculum, an overall review of the research materials and methods ofthe abroad, and the special value of this paper as well. The second part elaborates onthe importance of developing the school-based curriculum. The third part tries todiscuss the necessity and plausibility of the history courses combined with the localhistory and culture. The fourth part explains how the history course—Feeling the WuCulture—is carried out and the response from the students. In the end, the fifth partdraws a conclusion about the gained experiences and existing problems found duringthe process of teaching, and tries to solve them in different ways in order to furtherdevelop the course. In a word, this paper aims at the advocate a thoroughly new way of curriculumdevelopment and new teaching ideas by analyzing the value of the course itself andthe value of the local history and culture. Hopefully, the school-based curriculum ofhistory will become a good supplement to the teaching of history so as to broaden thestudents’ horizon and promote the curriculum reform...
