In recent years, women study is a hot social concern, but women’ssports research is drawn not enough attention. In the meantime, the existing research ofwomen’s sports mainly focus on after the founding of the People’s Republic of Chinaand concentrate on the match analysis, lacking the development of regional study,especially during the period of the Republic of China (1949-).During the period of therepublic of China, modern women’s sports have made its basic development. As aChina’s border of the inland city, the information, the traffic of Chengdu is very block,and the development of modern sports was slower than its counterparts of coastal cites,following along with the successive years of tangled warfare among warlords and sociala decline, the start of women’s sports was fairly tough. As a microcosm, Chengduwomen’s sports development of the period of the Republic of China gives the realisticreflection to the women’s sports development of old China, these can also provide somematerial and clues for study of the Chinese modem women’s sports development.The main contents includes:(1)the early development of Chengdu sports and thesocial basis of women’s sports development;(2)Chengdu women’s sports activities of allschools at different levels;(3)the promotion and supports of Sichuan provincialgovernment;(4) women figures of sports competition activities;(5)reviews. Theconclusion is:(1)women’s sports mainly developed in the schools, the socialparticipation was not high;(2)for reasons of the specific environment, women’s sportscarried a heavy burden for improving the quality of the population and increasing thenational strength;(3)the sports participation of initiative and enthusiasm was always nottoo high until the huge human resource demand for the war and led to the expansion ofsocial sports;(4)due to limited of the archives files, the government level’s sportsdecrees and orders can be easily checked, but the concrete practice situation is needfurther probe.
