Reading is one of the main contents in English classroom teaching. The traditional reading teaching model was teacher-centered, ignoring training students’practical skills and the students lacked self-learning ability. Much time and energy were spent, but the students’ reading ability was still weak, let alone their communicative competence. In the1960s, the interactive model was put forward. With the development of the research, more and more teachers employed interactive model into the classes and many varieties of activities appeared in English classes. However, a new phenomenon took place---in order to create active atmosphere in class, many activities were applied in the reading class, and the forms were various but it ignored analyzing, interpreting and exploring. Thus it looked that the students played actively, and created a good interaction. In fact, the students learned little and didn’t know what they had learned, and what the texts were about and couldn’t use the knowledge in the texts to do tasks. The real and effective interactive reading classroom is that the students can acquire knowledge through interactive activities with the guidance of the teacher. It attaches importance to the students’ability of thinking, their consciousness of question, cooperative learning and inquiry ability. It also pays much attention to the formation of students’good reading habits and the increase of their overall quality. At present, many researches on interactive teaching model have been made, but the researches on interactive teaching model of art students are few. With the development of society, more and more students choose to learn art to realize their value of life. On their way to be an artist, they need to obtain enough cultural knowledge as well as art knowledge. Since the new round curriculum reform was put into practice in Hebei Province in2009, the senior art students have faced heavier learning tasks. It’s a big challenge for art students that in the college entrance examination, many universities need a qualified English score. Therefore, an efficient classroom interaction is necessary. This research aimed at the interactive model in English reading classes for the art students in senior high school. It is student-centered, and in the reading procedure proper interactive activities were applied, which can arouse the art students’interest in reading, and help the students feel English and grasp language ability in the vivid forms of learning. The study lasted for nearly eight months and the subjects were two classes of art students in Senior One in Shijiazhuang No.6High School. The experimental class used interactive model in the teaching procedure while the controlled class adopted traditional teaching methods. At the end of this research, the researcher analyzed the influences which the interactive model had on art students’reading abilities through questionnaires, interview, classroom practice and tests. After more than seven months’experiment, it was obvious that the students in the experimental class were more active in acquiring knowledge and did better in reading than those in the controlled class. The following research conclusions are drawn in this thesis:The interactive teaching increases the art students’ interest in reading, makes them participate in the classroom activities actively, enhances their ability of expression and communicative competence and creates an efficient classroom. In the interactive reading classroom, the teacher is not a pure controller as before; he or she is a guide, a participant, an advisor, a designer, a director, a mediator, a resource provider and also a learner learning from the students while the attitude of the students is shifted from passive to initiative. The interactive teaching helps the art students’grasp more reading strategies and improve their reading and cooperative learning ability.
