Modern and contemporary prose is an important style of language course in highschool. Whether in the selected dimensions of teaching materials, or in the languageexamination levels, modern and contemporary prose in Chinese teaching in highschools represent an important proportion. Because of its unique style ofcontemporary prose, modern and contemporary prose has a positive role in promotinglanguage literacy of high school students. Teaching of contemporary prose is soimportant, but in Chinese teaching in high school, it does not pay attention to, andthere are all sorts of problems in the teaching process, seriously affecting theeffectiveness of the teaching of contemporary prose. One of the root causes of theseproblems is the neglect of close reading.This article is guide by close reading theory, discussion on the problemsassociated with teaching of modern and contemporary prose in high school.Introduces the rich content of close reading theory, significance of close readingtheory to teaching of modern and contemporary prose in high school, and theinspiration of close reading theory to teaching of modern and contemporary prose inhigh school.This article is divided into four major sections.The first part, analysis anddescribe the position and problems of teaching of modern and contemporary prose inhigh school. The second part, describes the general situation of domestic and foreignclose reading theory. The third part, illustrates the close reading theory and itsimplications for high school teaching of contemporary prose. The forth part, withclose reading theory as guidance, text analysis to the “puppy Bao Di”.
