Close reading what analyzes the texts layer by layer is a kind of reading way that emphasizes basing on the texts.And it’s a process of grasping the deep meanings of the texts.If close reading can be widely used in teaching in junior high school in the process of teaching modern and contemporary prose,it can contribute students to understand the emotions of prose,learn the cultural connotations of Chinese characters,and enhance aesthetic sensibilities of students.Beyond that,close reading can teach students some reading ways,ask students to split prose,analyze prose,compare prose and summarize prose to enhance language sense and thought of reading of students.In a word,close reading is good for core competencies of students.In the author’s opinion,close reading is not only a kind of effective method of text reading,but also is a kind of suitable method to teach modern prose in junior high school.Therefore,it’s necessary and viable.Above is the logic of this study.This paper is divided into three parts:introduction,text and conclusion.In the part of introduction,the author writes the background of this study,research questions,research significance and literature review,and briefly explains the research methods.The body part includes three chapters.In the first chapter,the author writes three core concepts including close reading,core competencies and modern and contemporary prose.And the author writes the feasibility of close reading of modern and contemporary prose in junior middle school.In the second chapter,teachers and students are surveyed in order to understand current situations and problems of teaching of modern and contemporary prose.In addition,the author briefly analyzes the causes of the problems and shows close reading is an effective way to solve teaching problems.In the third chapter,in order to solve these problems,the author makes some suggestions including that teachers must know reading requirements,apply methods of close reading and promote students to practice.Close reading emphasizes teaching and studying,it can improve the efficiency of teaching and improve students’ reading skills.
