With the rapid development of knowledge economy, vocational education, as the most close and direct link contacting with the economic development, is confronted with great challenges and opportunities. And the teachers play a key role in the development of secondary vocational education. High quality teachers can cultivate high-quality talents, so forming the high-quality professional vocational teachers’team is very important and urgent. The teachers of basic course teach the students basic knowledge and cultivate their abilities of analyzing and solving problems to improve their culture and comprehensive quality. But vocational education, different from education in secondary schools, is of highly professional education; whose main aim is not to prepare the student for further education but to train the students and get a job after their graduation. So it requires the teachers in vocational education not only help the students master basic knowledge but also the professional skills and qualities for employment.Most current researches at home focus on dual-qualified teachers in secondary vocational education, and seldom on improving the qualities and abilities of the teachers of basic courses. Most studies have only presented the importance of it, but not an effective way.While the researches abroad show that there are comprehensive training systems for all of the teachers before and after they become teachers. And we can learn from their research results and experience. The study presented here focuses on improving the qualities and abilities of the teachers of basic courses viewing of the reform requirements of secondary vocational schools’teachers by using case studies, interviews and questionnaires.The main contents of the papers are as follows:Introduction:This thesis explains the background and reasons, the research significance, situation at home and abroad and the research methods of the topic.The second part focuses on the current situations in improving the qualities and abilities of the teachers of basic courses; and analyzes the current situation in Zhu Zhou based on the research results.The third part discusses the necessity of improving the qualities and abilities of the teachers of basic courses based on the problems exist in current secondary vocational schools.The forth part offers some suggestions on improving the qualities and abilities of the teachers of basic courses.
