Vocational education in China has been considered as an important developmentstrategies, currently. Secondary vocational education in this country has been developing formore than20years, but unemployment in this sector is still high, especially due to everincreasing competition. Unavailability of high level qualifications in this field further affectsthe sector adversely. In order to reduce the unemployment and related anxiety due to the lowqualifications, students need to make right decision, venture positively, and they should alsoequip themselves with relevant professional and personal values. The values may enhancetheir career growth and they can also improve the employment situations. Therefore,educational institutions providing secondary vocational education should consider integratingthese values in their curriculum. This paper discusses values and theories related to secondaryvocational students. A questionnaire has been prepared about characteristics of students andfeatures of the vocational values. The survey indicates some problems regarding vocationalvalues. Furthermore, the current employment statistics also support the trend. The studyreports that the vocational students believe self-styled vocational ideals, make uninformeddecisions regarding their careers, and also lack career planning. The paper suggests that theproblems can possibly be solved by combining characteristics of vocational schools withvalue based education, vocational consciousness, career planning education depending onvarious learning phases of students, and psychological counseling.
