Picture books are regarded internationally as the most suitable materials for children toread in the twenty-first century, which not only agree with the aim of the guidelines as a newstrength for the early children reading, but also play an essential role in the children’sdevelopment. However, current nursery schools are on various teaching levels of childrenliterature, which causes the educational value loss of picture books.The paper is designed to understand the present teaching situation of picture books inkindergarten medium and higher classes in Shi Jiazhuang, and proposes the correspondingsuggestions for the existing problems in hope of providing the scientific basis for the futureteaching of picture books in the kindergarten in Shi Jiazhuang urban area.The research takes five teachers randomly from nursery schools on the city level andprovince level as the subjects for observation, among whom three are teaching in higherclasses and two in medium classes. Through observation, interview and recording of teachingprocesses by DV, the author draws the conclusion in terms of selecting, reading, analyzing ofpicture books, the grasp of the relationship between contents and paintings, the teachingmethods and strategies, instructional modes and the relationship between children andteachers.The positive points in teaching of picture books in medium and higher classes ofkindergarten in Shi Jiazhuang are as follows. Firstly, the selection is plural and proper;secondly, the teaching can be developed under the concept of conformity; thirdly, readingpictures is in the center of teaching and the main features of picture books can be graspedcorrectly.Meanwhile, there are some problems in the teaching. Firstly, there is the lack of plan andsystem in the teaching of picture books; secondly, the reading is not in-depth; thirdly, moreemphasis is put on the pictures than on the text, leading to the neglect of the artist value ofwords; fourthly, the asking-replying strategy is not quite effective; fifthly, the teachingmethods are too simple; sixthly, the teaching modes are stereotyped; seventhly, the children’scenter position is not obvious. In order to solve the problems above, the paper puts forward the following advice. Theteaching of picture books is carried out based on the course and the research having existed inthe nursery school; an open and orderly community should be established so as to promote theteachers’ ability of researching, understanding and analyzing; the strategies such as readingloud, role play and so on should be applied in order to change the method which stresses thepictures but overlook the words; the effect of asking-replying strategy should be improved;plural teaching methods should be adopted; a children-centered environment for teachingshould be created with the enhancement of teaching methods and the development of activitymodes.
