With the enrollment expansion of colleges and universities, higher education is becoming more and more accessible. The time when college or university graduates were highly rated by the society is gone. For art schools, the policy has turned the elite education into the mass education. A teacher no longer teaches only several students, but a whole class—sometimes even more than one—of dozens of students. For example, the number of students and graduates from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute has been increasing each year. Many other colleges and universities have also set up art or design related departments. The growing number of people with degrees or certifications in art-related studies or training has lead to an awkward situation where the supply of the "talents" is higher than the demand of the job market. The lower standards for entering art schools have also lowered the quality of graduates. Along with those factors, the gap between parents’ expectation and students’ ability has also caused problems in the employment of the graduates. To study and analyze those problems and find out their solutions based on a typical art school, could not only enrich the content, but also make a practical significance to the employment education of art schools. The study in this thesis is based on carefully selected bibliography, as well as the first-hand information from the day-to-day work at the school. Starting with the issues in the employment of graduates from art schools, it builds the basis for the strategies to deal with them by analyzing the problems from three aspects, the society, the schools and the students and draws the conclusion inluding effective solutions by bringing up and analyzing ideas for a better employment situation of the selected school. The research in this thesis has been summarized as follows. First, the employment problems of art schools are highly related to the characteristics of the art students themselves, and a thorough understanding of those characteristics is needed to carry out better employment education. Second. the study on the strategies of proper employment guidance could help solve the problems such as the students’ preference for major cities, the total freedom in the process of job seeking, and the over-emphasized return on investment. Third, in order to improve the employment education, the organization, the content and the methods of the education should be reinforced.
