Employment of college graduates has been a focused issue of the whole society. The Government Work Report, released on the Eighteenth CPC National Congress, reads that "we will try our best to improve youth employment, with the focus on college graduates" Notice on the Work of Increasing College Graduates’Employment in2013from the General Office of the State Council lays stress on improving employment service and vocational guidance for college graduates as well as career guidance and counseling of teachers in colleges. Employment guidance for college graduates is an organized and planned educational practice where educators help students make career plans, improve vocational abilities and choose jobs suitable for themselves according to their individual features and social demand, in order to facilitate the harmonious development of students and the society. Employment guidance is fundamental to the employment and vocational growth of students, the sustainable development of higher education and the stability and development of the society. Therefore, colleges of all countries attach great importance to the employment guidance for college graduates.At present, most colleges in China, including those provincial colleges in Jilin Province, have started employment guidance and achieved preliminary results. The paper studies the current employment guidance for graduates from provincial colleges in Jilin by the means of questionnaire survey, documentary and interview on the basis of document research and finds out the following questions:unsound functional organization for employment guidance and unreasonable personnel allocation; plain content and low efficiency in the guidance; the guidance is carried out in some fixed patterns, short of flexibility, continuity and pertinence. At the same time, the paper analyzes the reasons as well:provincial colleges do not pay enough attention to the employment guidance; short of professional staff; the guidance is carried out according to administration system and does not go to good functions; and students tend to overlook the function of the guidance. Thus, the guidance does not start from the actual demand of students, an efficient guidance system in a new form and with rich content is hard to achieve and the efficiency of the employment guidance in provincial colleges is decreased largely.The paper studies deeply and systematically the burning problems in the employment guidance of provincial colleges in Jilin and puts forward some solutions for improving the effectiveness:establishing a sound system; generalizing full-process guidance and extending the time of guidance; improving the uniformity of market demand, professional education and vocational guidance; integrating social resources and building employment platforms. The author hopes to inspire through the studies the improvement of employment guidance for graduates from colleges in Jilin. Moreover, the paper gives suggestions for increasing the effectiveness of employment guidance for college graduates based on the research of geographical conditions and social context of Jilin.
