With the successful Revolution of1911, modern Chinese art education gradually entered an education developmental period with new College Fine Arts departments emerging. In addition to manual drawing education from the late Qing dynasty being focused on by the official Department of Education, various forms of art training schools focused on Western style art emerged. Western painting and the ideas that were entrenched in this art brought about new ideas and challenges to the social culture at the time. Among them, the privately-run Shanghai Training School of Fine Arts established itself as leader among many art schools established during the Republic of China period, and became the only continuously run, and with the most significant teaching achievements of all the schools. The location of school and the continuous moving of the school contributed to this. Due to the political instability at the time and with limited funds, the school during its infancy moved many times, and later on with the development of the school it expanded numerous times, finally evolving into a modernized board run school, allowing for the raising of funds to acquire a permanent site for the school. The founders with the support of Liu Haisu and the Liu family, along with support from Cai Yuanpei and different parts of the community, developed the school from a school with only a dozen people to an official university accredited by the Ministry of Education. This provides some enlightenment for the development of Art education in current day China.
