The Research Trend Of Foreign Urban-Rural Relationship And Its Inspiration

Urban-rural relationship is a basic issue which has the great influence on economic development and political stability of our country. Whether the relation of socio-economic development in urban and rural areas is coordinated, will not only determine the speed and quality of current urbanization process, but also directly impact the resolution of our three agricultural issues and modernization construction going smoothly. At this stage, the relationship between urban and rural areas of China has been improved greatly. The cut and apart situation in urban and rural areas has been broken gradually, but the overall development in urban and rural areas remains incogruous. In this case, many domestic and foreign scholars, from different disciplines, have an extensive and in-depth discussion of policies and theories on urban-rural relationship. Since entering the new century, there are more fruitful studies on urban-rural relationship among foreign scholars, and the discussion on these results in home is to be actually rare, which has given a research of this topic the academic value and realistic meaning. After combing and translating a large number of foreign literature on the study of urban-rural relationship, this paper has done a detailed study of urban-rural relationship at the present stage about its concept definition, research context and main content, draws the abundant thought nourishment from them, in order to seek theoretical inspiration for China’s urban-rural harmonious development.This thesis can be divided into six chapters. The first chapter explains the reasons and the purpose for choosing this issue, research significance as well as the research ideas and methods. The second chapter briefly introduces several representative theoretical research results in foreign countries, then put forward the concept evolvement of urban-rural relation to urban-rural linkage. The third chapter reviews the research context of urban-rural relationship abroad since the beginning of twentieth century, contribute to grasp the overall trend on study of urban-rural relationship. The fourth and fifth chapters are the main parts and key content of this thesis. In the fourth chapter, it expounds current study about urban-rural relationship related to the foreign content. Discussion on urban-rural relationship strides across different disciplines and each domain of social life. Because of the limited space, from the perspective of urban-rural interaction and its following structural changes, this thesis selects eight aspects to elaborate, that is, policy change of urban-rural development, the absence and construction of urban system, urban-rural population migration, urban-rural poverty and livelihood strategies of developing countries, land protection and city agriculture of developed countries, the decentralization management of local government, non-governmental organizations to promote urban-rural linkage and the role of rural infrastructure construction. The fifth chapter discusses the inspiration of foreign study on urban-rural relationship to China, starting from the current situation of the development of China’s urban-rural relationship, reflects on the experiences and lessons of foreign urban-rural development, then puts forward the way for benign development of China’s urban and rural areas from seven aspects. The conclusion part summarizes the main content and several major viewpoints in this thesis, points out the deficiency, so as to lay a good foundation for further study.
