Apprenticeship is seen as the oldest way of vocational education, but it has enormous vitality. In the industry revolution area, with the rising of vocational education, apprenticeship was marginalized. In modern times, it’s seen as an important strategic choice of vocational education by many western countries. In Britain, apprenticeship, which has a long history, formed its own features gradually with continuous development and innovation and it is the cornerstone of Britain technology training. Since1990s, the world pattern, especially the structure of Britain industry, has changed radically and the center of economic development has been shifted. But skills training of vocational education ceased to advance without adjustment to changes in labor market. Consequently, skilled talents cannot meet the needs of labor market, causing serious unemployment, especially among teenagers, whose unemployment rate is rising.The papers is mainly to study the reform of apprenticeship of the secondary vocational education in British, accumulating a lot of experience for the development of cooperation between schools and enterprises, this papers consists of six sections.Section one is "introduction". The section is to explain the purpose of the study, reviews the previous studies on the apprenticeship of the vocational education in British and our country, defines some core concepts, and introduces the ideas and methods using in this study.Section two is "the historical evolution of the system of apprenticeship of the secondary vocational education in British". Based on the morphological changes of apprenticeship, the history of apprenticeship is divided into periods of formation, development, decline and reconstruction periods. The characters and drives for the evolution of apprenticeship and the values that bring it through the history are concluded.Section three is "the main measures of reform for the modern apprenticeship of secondary vocational education in British". The reform of the domestic and international context is presented.Then, building the system of connecting skills certification with vocational qualification, the establishment of a clearly identified organizational management institutions, the basic framework for apprenticeship training, and the basis of contract implementation programme are particularly discussed in detail for the reform measures of modern apprenticeships.Section four is "the main characters of the modern apprenticeship of secondary vocational education in British". Compared with traditional apprenticeship, specialized management institutions, flexible training cycles, dual of training models, as well as a Multi-faceted evaluation mechanisms and so on which belong to modern apprenticeship.Section five is "the effectiveness and challenge of the modern apprenticeship of secondary vocational education in British". The apprenticeships, employers, government as well as the rest are taken into account to explore the effectiveness and challenge of the modern apprentices.Section six is "lessons for the cooperation between schools and enterprises in China: from the modern apprenticeship of secondary vocational education in British". The problem about management body, attractive, teacher and evaluation mechanism is analyzed in the development of cooperation between schools and enterprises. Finally four point’s recommendations are made. First, establishing specifically management body for the cooperation between schools and enterprises; second, enhancing the attractive of the cooperation between schools and enterprises; third, building the mutual assistance system of the cooperation between schools and enterprises; fourth, forming diversified evaluation mechanism of the cooperation between schools and enterprises.
