The basic ideas of high school’s geography classes include: to get basic geography skills,to develop geographic thoughts,to master the basic methods of learning and solvinggeographic issues; To increase patriotic feelings, to establish a scientific concept ofpopulation, resources, environment and sustainable development. How to practice the abovebasic ideas through class design, how to make students love the geography class, a study wasundertook based on positive psychology.Based on theory of positive psychology, new theory of high school geographycurriculum, theory of geography teaching, followed by a survey of current geography classteaching situation, three models of class teaching are designed and practiced:“new teachinglessons”,“exercises explanation lessons” and “review lessons”, and ultimately a trainingstrategy of geography learning based on positive psychology is introduced. This thesisincludes the following parts: background and overview of positive psychology; practice ofpositive psychology in the geography teaching of high school; training strategy of geographylearning based on positive psychology.Chapter I, introduction, the background of the study is introduced from the followingthree aspects, purpose and mission of geography teaching, philosophy and situation of highschool geography teaching, the role of teachers in students’ learning. Then the meaning andtheoretical basis of positive psychology is expounded, research of positive psychologyapplication in geography teaching at home and abroad is introduced, and finally the purposeand significance of the study is explained.Chapter II, analysis of factors impacting students’ enthusiasm of learning geography. Toinvestigate the psychological state of the students’ learning geography through questionnairesand discussion. The analysis will be undertaken through the point of both teachers andstudents.Chapter III, practices of positive psychology in high school’s geography teaching, threemodels of “new teaching lessons”,“exercises explanation lessons” and “review lessons” aredesigned and practiced with teaching cases for each modelChapter IV, enthusiasm training strategy of learning geography based on the theory ofpositive psychology. Four strategies are created, including “to establish the positive teaching concept of teachers”,“to create a successful experience for students ","to train the creativityof students” and “to create a good environment ". Each strategy is with practical cases.Geography teaching based on positive psychology in high school is proved to beeffective in the actual teaching. This can be seen through the comparative study of theexperimental classes and standard classes, scores difference between previous and post-testexaminations, scores difference between previous and post experiment questionnaire,emotional differences between the students and teachers after experiment. However, this studyalso owns some shortcomings and the direction of future research is addressed in the final.
