This paper attempts to propose the new concept, connotation, evaluation of model andindicators of urban competitiveness from the new perspective of the urban agglomeration, basedon competition and cooperation among cities in the urban agglomeration. Under the case studyof Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration to investigate urbancompetitiveness to compete in the different city groups and the different types of cities, combined with the stage of development of urban agglomerations and urban-type, revealing thedifferent periods of urban competitiveness, and thus to enhance the strategic analysis of citycompetitiveness and urban functions of the individual positioning.Through research, the perspective of urban agglomeration of urban competitivenessultimately comes from three areas: Urban agglomeration of the city’s competitiveness (nodecompetitiveness); Competitiveness brought about by the economic ties to the city formed by thecollaborative division of labor between cities within the urban agglomeration (networkcompetitiveness); Competitiveness reflected in the overall operation of the economic system ofthe urban agglomeration (system competitiveness), these three interactions, together constitutethe urban competitiveness in view of urban agglomerations.Through the analysis to determine the size of the urban competitiveness is no longer rely onits own independent development of a single city, between the city and other cities supportingrole of the mutual relations of cooperation, as well as the urban agglomeration of economicsystems to enhance their competitiveness but also a great help. This paper argues that the nodecompetitiveness is still the key factors of urban competitiveness; Node competitiveness gap, andthe score is weak in most cities, Network less competitive, the city score big gap between thestrong Pearl River Delta cities in the Yangtze River Delta cities; System Competitiveness of theYangtze River Delta urban is superior to the Pearl River Delta cities; Urban competitivenessscore lower but the distribution is concentrated, the Yangtze River Delta cities outperformed thePearl River Delta cities; different composite index of urban competitiveness. Finally, on the former basic analysis, this paper holds the ideas that: the urbanagglomeration strategy is an effective way to improve urban competitiveness, building trust andinteraction cooperative relations between the cities is one of the key point, the node, network andsystem is the three processes to enhance the urban competitiveness.
