FAW-TOKICO Shock Absorber Co., Ltd.(FTL) was established in1998, the mainproducts are shock absorber and strut for the automotive. Been established14years FTL’scustom from2single vehicle manufacturers as FAW-Volkswagen, FAW Car graduallydeveloped, including FAW JIEFANG, FAW Toyota, Hafei Motor, BeijingAutomotive Fukuda, SAIC, FAW Haima Zhengzhou hippocampus, JAC, Chery Automobile,Youth groups, Jiangling Ford, South Korea’s Daewoo and other domestic and foreign carmanufacturers, including over300kinds of models supporting. In2011, FTL’s annual outputwas more than700million shock absorbers, among the forefront of the domestic automobilemanufacturers of shock absorbers.With the expansion of business scale and technical capabilities, FTL’s annual number ofnew product development also continues to increase. In contrast, it is also becomingimportant to enhance product development capacity building. To enhance productdevelopment capabilities, on the one hand, it is important to introduce more R&D talent,invest equipment for R&D and prototype and test, on the other hand, we need to strengthenthe product development project management capabilities. And the above is mainly reflectedin the ability of the product development project management.This article describes the theoretical development of the history and basic principles ofproject management. The project is a functional department for the completion of a uniqueproduct or service made by a one-time effort, sometimes it runs only in one organization;sometimes it may need to span several organizations. The project is generally divided intoseveral necessary stages: start-up phase, the planning phase, implementation phase, the finalstage. The project management is an application in a range of knowledge, skills, tools andtechnologies to meet or exceed the requirements and expectations of the project-relatedpersonnel on the project in the project activities.Car, because of it owns tens of thousands of parts, so the automotive’s productdevelopment is quite complex. At present, domestic and foreign auto companies have theirown mature development process, such as the U.S. auto companies (Chrysler, GeneralMotors, Ford, etc.) follow the QS9000, the German auto companies (Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz) follow the VDA6.1. TS16949(full name: Quality management systems-the automotive industry production and relevant service parts organization andimplementation) is the standard of the International Organization for Standardization todevelop a unified quality management system according to different national automotiveindustry. For auto parts enterprises, it is essential to be in accordance with the processstipulated by the TS16949For Automotive Shock Absorber, course its performance relationship between thevehicle’s safety and comfort, so the car companies are stringent with car shock absorberperformance. The complexity of its internal structure, determines not only the productdevelopment of automotive shock absorber must strictly follow the project managementprocesses to, but also ensure that the progress of development projects and qualified to meetthe progress and quality of vehicle development.FTL’s organizational structure and business operation mode meet the needs of projectmanagement. Before the establishment of the project, we need assess about the customer’sinput, product and technical’s feasibility. Then it is essential to establish the projectteam. Project team is include the core members of the general manager or its deputy, theproject manager, product development engineers, quality engineers, process developmentengineers, sales managers, purchasing managers, etc., but also including logistics engineer,planning engineers, manufacturing engineers, supplier quality engineers, price stuff, andfinancial accounting stuff, test engineers and other non-core members. The project team isexist from the project began stages to the end of the project.The shock absorber product development project management is including the time ofproject planning and cost’s optimization. By using of project management tools, we reducethe time required for the project and the project cost as much as possible through amulti-party review, under the premise to meet the project schedule and customerrequirements, a reasonable reduction in order to ensure the vector and the effect of productdevelopment.Of course, as the young star automotive shock absorber industry FTL still needs tooutstanding enterprises at home and abroad to learn the project management theory. In thefuture FTL’s project management methods space to improve is great, mainly in the field ofproject quality management, project human resource management, project procurementmanagement and project risk management, it is essential to continue to supplement andstrengthen also. The main purpose of this thesis is to contribute FTL’s development by collation andsummary of FTL’s shock absorber product development project managementtheory. Meanwhile, we hope to communicate with domestic and international projectmanagement theory advanced enterprises to contribute to the development of China’s autoparts industry as a whole the Chinese automotive industry.
