Technology transfer to farmers and herdsmen in Tibet Autonomous Region, is an important elementin dissemination of knowledge and extension works, but its effectiveness exist in certain vulnerabilities. One reason for this phenomenon is that we often use so-called "top-down" mode of carrying out thetraditional training of farmers and herdsmen, the neglect of farmers and herdsmen’s own knowledge andexperience within the training needs. Thus to more effective implementation of training of farmers andherdsmen, farmers and herdsmen to fully mobilize the initiative and creativity of the masses, China-Canada Cooperation of the "Tibetan people’s basic livelihood improvement project"(2001-2007) inPoverty Alleviation Office of the Tibet Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region AgriculturalInstitute in cooperation with the Canadian International Development Agency to carry out the work, theinitial attempt in the training of farmers and herdsmen in the application of principles of participatorytraining and learning mode. Participatory training as a foreign emerging adult education model in China, especially in the Tibet Autonomous Region is still in development and exploratory stage, it’s in need ofmore research and practice in order to promote the realization of the localization process. The paper byparticipatory training of farmers and herdsmen implementation steps and training effectiveness research, focused on exploring how the theory of participatory training and training of farmers and herdsmen inthe Tibet Autonomous Region practice, training of farmers and herdsmen in the Tibet AutonomousRegion to enhance the effectiveness of the work to provide a more effective new methods.By introducing China-Canada Cooperation Project in the implementation process, I will focus onresearch training in participatory implementation steps of farmers and herdsmen and impact assessmentissues. Firstly, according to the characteristics of the training of farmers and herdsmen have developedparticipatory training of farmers and herdsmen of the flow chart, and case studies on participatorytraining of farmers and herdsmen in various parts of the implementation of key points to be resolvedand instructions. Secondly, the use of quantitative research and qualitative interviews with both methods, training of farmers and herdsmen to reveal participatory implementation of the results andcharacteristics. Quantitative analysis showed that the use of participatory training of farmers andherdsmen in the theoretical design of the project has achieved good economic, environmental and socialbenefits, improve the scientific productivity and farm household’s awareness of environmentalprotection; qualitative interview study shows the participatory training of farmers and herdsmen canhelp trainers and participants to build self-confidence and mutual trust, effective communicationplatform, clearly showing that participatory training of farmers and herdsmen to obtain the social effects. In the implementation of the participatory process of training of farmers and herdsmen, farmers andherdsmen must be combined with the characteristics of their own learning, to their actual needs as astarting point, flexibility to use various teaching methods to promote agricultural and pastoral areas ofadult learning and development effectiveness, and should pay attention to emotional learning training offarmers and herdsmen in the application.Through theoretical studies and practical activities, I realized that the use of participatory trainingmethods, equal dialogue, group learning and other means to achieve self-development for farmers andherdsmen in the empowerment of active learning activities to help farmers and herdsmen and graduallyestablish a sense of ownership, self-confidence and responsibility, is conducive to economic andagro-pastoral and pastoral areas of common and coordinated development of their own people. Thus Ibelieve that participatory training methods and training of farmers and herdsmen in the TibetAutonomous Region in promising sectors of the community will get more attention and greaterdevelopment.
