Higher education as social superstructure, it is a subsystem of the social system,it inextricably linked with the socio-economic linkages, and continued to meet theneeds of political and economic development. The higher education is “muscle” and“bone” of economic growth, the educational economic problem becomes the hotproblem to domestic and foreign scholars study day by day. Yangtze River Delta isone of the areas where the economic strength of our country is the most powerful,most vigourous and the total amount is of the largest scale, and the educationalcomprehensive strength comes out at the top in our country, in this text, penman usesthe method of combining qualitative and quantitative analysis, based the data from1986to2009, studying higher education and coordination development problem ofthe economic growth in Yangtze River Delta, offering certain policy recommendationsfor educational reform.On the basis of a number of scholars investigation and research on highereducation and the coordinated development of economy,this paper will study threemain problems: Correlation between higher educational and economic growth,andhow to build to reflect the level of higher education and economic growth indicators;The interactive relationship and cointegration between higher education and economicgrowth; The contribution and the degree of coordination of higher education toeconomic growth.Firstly, to solve the first problem, this article uses canonical correlation analysis,there are positive correlation relations between economic growth and the highereducation of Yangtze River Delta, theirs canonical correlation coefficient is0.999972.In addition, setting up the index system which reflect higher educational developmentand economic growth, among them, the main factors affect the development of highereducation is the number of students, R&D investment and research fundsstudent-teacher ratio, the main factor reflect of the economic growth is per personGDP and local financial expenditure.Secondly, to solve the second problem, this article uses granger causality test andcointegration analysis method, the higher education is granger reason of the economicgrowth change, the economic growth is granger reason of the higher education changetoo. There are long-term balanced relations between economic growth and the highereducation, the short-term relation is tenable notably in JiangSu Province and ZheJiangProvince, but the short-term models of ShangHai can not be passed, that is to say, the short-term relation is untenable.Thirdly, to solve the third problem, setting up DEA model to appraise the validitythat the higher education contributes to the economic growth of Yangtze River Delta,the result shows higher education in ShangHai and ZheJiang Province’s contributionto economic growth is DEA effective, but JiangSu Province is DEA invalid. Further,this text sets up grey relational analysis model, researching the coordination degreebetween higher education and economic growth in Yangtze River Delta, the resultsshows that there is coordinating State between economic growth and the highereducation from1986to2009and five five-year-plan period, and on the whole, thecoordination degree between higher education and economic growth in ShangHai,JiangSu, ZheJiang is0.796,0.803,0.798, coordination of ranking is: Jiangsu Province,Zhejiang Province and Shanghai City.At last, based on the empirical analysis, this article gives advice from the fouraspects, investment in education, path of characteristic educational development,non-governmental university and production, teaching, research combines together.
