The Study On Development Tactic For Domestic Telecom Operators Mobile Payment

Mobile payment is an emerging transdisciplinary and multi-industry business which was originated from the development of telecommunication and the innovation of financial services. As an extension of the modern finance progress, the bright prospect of mobile payment has been acknowledged by all involved industries.Mobile payment was born in the U.S.A, while several styles of business model have been formed since then, such as financial institute dominated, telecom operator dominated, third-party payment services company dominated, and multi-lateral cooperation. In the21st century, telecom operator dominated mobile payment has acquired tremendous growth and success in Japan and Korea, and it even has become the major payment solution instead of bank card in Africa where a mature financial system is not established yet.Chinese telecom operators also started to blaze their trails within the field of mobile payment at the beginning of2000. However, due to the shortages in various aspects like policy environment, technology standard, and profit model, such attempts did not accomplish the goals as expected at that time. Then in the December of2011, all three telecom operators acquired the mobile payment license issued by PBOC, and in the August of2012, the national standard of mobile payment was finally confirmed after three years argument. It seems that all the troubles used to hinder the development of mobile payment in China have been wiped out.To study how the Chinese telecom operators could accomplish the growth and success in mobile payment is the focus of this thesis. The thesis will firstly give a brief introduction about the definition of mobile payment, followed by summarizing the experience from foreign exercises in telecom operator dominated mobile payment. Secondly, assorted researching and analyzing measures such as PEST, SWOT and Six force model will be carried out with the combination of the data and information collected. Then finally, the thesis will propose the development strategy for Chinese telecom operator dominated mobile payment.
