In recent years, the environmental art and design education in institutions of higher learning i n Ningxia has been rapid developed and has produced fruitful effects. However, there are also a lot of shortcomings appeared such as the professional curriculum and its training objectives are relati vely simple, general and lack of the cultivation of students’ comprehensive quality and other relat ed qualities. The main cause of these consequences is that the investment and configure in educati on incompatible with its development pace and various factors restrict the development of the envi ronmental art and design education. Based on the above issues, this paper uses methods such as m athematical statistics, questionnaires, logical reasoning and other research methods to investigate, analyze and research the development status of the environmental art and design education in.insti tutions of higher learning in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. According to the survey results, this paper put forward the following specific tactics for the existing problems and long-term devel opment issues of the environmental art and design education in the development of universities in Ningxia:implement environmental art design vocational qualification certificate system, change the traditional curriculum forms by stressing on human knowledge acquisition, to enhance the inn ovative thinking expansion in training and build an education system which adapts to the character istics of the local region, give top priority to the nation’s own characteristics in professional setting s and strengthen mutual resources usage with Environmental Art Design Department of other colle ges and universities in domestic.
