With the rapid development of marine engineering, the exploitation of offshore oil andgas resources has been marching to the deepwater. As an indispensable supportingengineering ship, pipe-laying crane vessel shows the trend of large-scale, deep-water andspecialization. Due to the complexity of the deepwater environment, such a ship that with alot of special persons on board must have excellent intact and damage stability to maintainthe safety of crew. SOLAS unified the probabilistic damage stability calculation methodwhich became effective in2009and brought many challenges for the stability design ofpipe-laying crane vessel. Therefore, it’s necessary to analysis the stability, especially thedamage stability, of pipe-laying crane vessel.According to the previous and current stability design code, this thesis takes large-scalepipe-laying crane vessel as an example, and analyze it’s intact stability, deterministicdamage stability and probabilistic damage stability during the transit and pipe layingconditions and crane operations in the form of stability checking. Calculates the MINGZcurve of damage stability and determine whether it can meet this vessel’s transit and pipelaying conditions or not, and analyze the damage stability results obtained by the twoalgorithms. In order to improve the probabilistic damage stability, the thesis proposes toincrease breadth and set cross-flooding fittings and analyzes the feasibility of the twomethods. Analyze the stability of widened ship by calculating intact stability, residualdamage stability and MINGZ curve of probabilistic damage stability, study the strengthsand weaknesses. At last, this paper studies the calculation of cross-flooding time, analyzesthe main factors that affect the flooding time, and calculates the damage stability of thetarget ship with cross-flooding arrangements analyzes the effect of cross-flooding fittings,studies the probabilistic damage stability results of different flooding diameter.By this research, we can have knowledge of the characteristics of pipe-laying cranevessel’s stability, in particular, the probabilistic damage stability, and provide reference forthe independent research and development of similar ship.
