With the growing of the gear type compressor production, the original test beds are not able to meet the running test of the SBW group. Thus, separate test beds have been constructed to meet the products features and test specification of the gear type compressors. Accordingly, an inclusive monitoring and control system has been designed for the test beds.Test beds facilities are very important for manufacturing compressor products. With the test running, potential manufacturing, design or assembling problem can be found and solved before product delivered. The performance parameters can also be checked and verified whether in comply with the user’s requirement during the continuous test run of the compressor.This article has explained the main features and its control methods of gear type compressor based on analysis of working theory and characteristics of different gear compressor model and its test drive motor and other auxiliary equipments. It focus on the main regulation modes of the compressor performance test and point out different close loop control regulation modes and its fuzzy PID control algorithm. This article have also explained the general control requirements based on the study of compressor unit alarm&interlock, compressor flow/pressure control, compressor anti-surge control, compressor auxiliaries equipment (Lube oil unit) controls. Thus, a combined control solution has been provided which will meet the total requirement of gear type compressor test beds unit.The design of test beds control system has many difference compared with normal compressor unit. It is a hard and big task and also involves consideration of various performance regulation and control modes integration.It has to meet the requirment of different compressor models for selecting regulation mode according to the test run specification.Proper hardware configuration is the primary task/precondition of design a good control system. This article also explained how the writer selecting field instruments, PLC hardware and PLC software programming to achieve a stable and user friendly interface (easy to operate and modify) during operation。The design of the control system is very good, it fulfill all the functions of the test beds and also have following characters like simple structure, easy-maintenance and expand, user-friendly interface. This type of system has realized the optimization design and also will have a good application prospect in future.
