With the enhancement of Chinese urbanization, the city size and population is expanded rapidly. As a result,traffic congestion, environmental pollution and the deterioration of living conditions have emerged one after another.The rise of modern tram brings significant benefits to easing urban traffic pressure, improving the public transportation system and fulfilling the green concept of transit priority.Based on the system features of tram, this thesis mainly conducted research on the construction feasibility and technical proposal of modern tram, which provides references and foundation for urban transit construction. The main results are as follows:First of all, describe the history of tram and definemodern tramby considering about theindustry standards and classification of urban rail transit.Introduce the main features of tramsystem by summarizing the instances of well-knowntram manufacturers. Provide references forthe modern tram selection through analyzing different technical proposal ofvehicle technology, the right of way, track structure and the power technology.Secondly, discussthe construction necessity of the tram form different perspectiveslike urban planning, environmental protection, ecologicalbenefit; etc.The modern tram is compared with subway, light rail and BRT to figure out the advantages and disadvantages. And five kinds of application mode are put forward in this part.Thirdly, considering the feasibility study of tramconstruction project and the commonality among tram,subway and BRT system,factors affecting construction feasibilities are re-classified andthe evaluation index system is established with nighteen evaluation indexes, which are included in five criteria layers(applicability, technology, economy, society, environment). Then, use the method of ANP and TOPSIS to finish the comprehensive evaluation of different transport solutions, and the weight of the indexes can be calculated with the Super Decisions software.Finally,the feasibility of the evaluation method is demonstrated through an actual case application. Then, carry on the summarization and prospect.
