The Chinese-English Translation Of Technical Texts Aided By The Internet

A command of translation skills is far from enough for a translator; a sufficient acquaintance of background knowledge, right before he starts to work, may play a more important role in producing acceptable translation. Taking Function of the Track and Diesel Engine as examples, the author of this paper discusses the roles that the Internet plays in ensuring the accuracy and acceptability of Chinese-English translation of technical texts, from four aspects--getting industrial backgrounds, obtaining parallel texts, translating generic term and enhancing the quality of the whole version.The author also talks about the limitations of the Internet in translation at the end. It indicates that the author plays the main part while internet the aided role. This paper dialectically discusses the subsidiary role of the Internet in translation.
