Proceedings of globalization expedites unprecedentedly with the21stcentury coming which hasinfluenced every part of our society and life. Each country, reigon and nation communicates with othersincreasingly frequently. The course of intercultural communication emerged at a historic moment. Asever-increasing numbers of people study, travel or work abroad, no matter what they do, they are engagedin intercultural communication. At the same time, with the reform and opening up, the development ofeconomy and society gained the great success attract worldwide attention, China’s overall national strengthand international status is advancing within30years. With the deepening development of thecommunication between China and other countries on politics, economy and culture, learning Chineselanguage and culture is certain to carry weight. More and more foreign students come to China to acquireChinese language and culture. In different cultures, the development of our country’s TCSL is faced withnew challenges under new problem and new situation.The main purpose of teaching Chinese as a foreign language is training the student’s ability of usingChinese to make intercultural communication. The ability of intercultural communication contains manyfactors, and cultural empathy is an important method of making intercultural communication. As acommunicative activity between pluralistic cultures, improving the competence of cultural empathy canmake someone know much more about other countries’ culture and shorten the psycho distance decided bysense of worth in different culture.The preface expounds the current situation of the research, the significance and the foundation. Thetext is divided into five parts: Chapter two tells the definition and origin of empathy and cultural empathy.Chapter three analyses the factors influence the competence of cultural empathy. Aimed at these factors,chapter four provides how to improve the cultural empathy competence. And chapter five emphasizes the moderate rules in cultural empathy. The last chapter comes back to Teaching of Chinese as a secondlanguage, talking about cultural empathy’s application value to intercultural communicaton. All this paperis going to tell the significance of cultural empathy to provide some references to Teaching of Chinese as asecond language.
