This is a report of translation project. The source text of the translation project is atechnical service contract signed by Kerzner Development Entity and a company in Hainanon the design and others of a resort in Hainan. The author applied the “FunctionalEquivalence Theory” into the translation practice, and abided by the principle to make therelationship between the target language receptors and the target text generally beequivalent with that between the source language receptor and source text in the process oftranslation to guarantee the faithfulness and expressiveness of the target text. Whentranslating long sentences, the author always put the meaning equivalence first, then thestyle equivalence. The report has been divided into four parts. The first part is introductionwhich presents the background and significance of the project, and the structure of thepaper; the second part is about the text, including the origin and features of the text and thetheoretical bases; the third part is the most important part which connects the theory withcertain examples in the target text to express how theories direct practice; the last part isconclusion, the author’s inspiration is contained in this part, and the limitation and furtherresearch are presented in it, either. By textual analysis methods, the author has referred torelative articles and read some books to understand the textual features of contracts, thecontent of “Functional Equivalence Theory” and the research status of the contracttranslation. The translation of the technical service contract involved in the paper will beanalyzed to discover the problems in it and solve them. The purpose of the paper is tomake the translators know the guiding function of “Functional Equivalence Theory” totechnical service contract, and urge them to improve the quality of the translations.
