| Press conference,also known as news conference,is an activity held for a social group or organization to issue information related to itself or significant events.The international community proposes important questions with regard to politics,economy and culture,etc.about China and the world at large.The interpreting quality on the press conference exerts great influence on information access for domestic and abroad public directly.Therefore,the study about Chinese-English interpreting strategies on the press conference is of vital importance.In 1968,Seleskovitch introduces the interpretive theory in his paper.In 1980s,the researching scope is expanded into the interpreting circle,representing a new era for the theory.The core concept of interpretive theory is that the object that an interpreter comprehends,de-verbalizes and re-expressed is the sense the addresser conveys rather than the linguistic forms,so an interpreter's major task is to accomplish the process of de-verbalization and seize the sense(Seleskovitch,1978).The well known Triangle Model further explains the process,including comprehension,de-verbalization and re-expression.This paper,under guidance of interpretive theory,analyzes features of press conferences,proposes major strategies of Chiese-English consecutive interpreting on press conferences and give examples extracted from Premier Li Keqiang's address during the NPC and CPPCC sessions.The major strategies are namely as:explanatory interpreting,omission interpreting,logical relationship manifestation,disassembling and combining in structurally run-on sentences as well as comprehensive interpreting.According to the researching results,the interpreter should forget the linguistic structure of original language,then re-organize the information with linguistic sentence structure in target language.The interpreter should not be restricted by the linguistic form but interpret in line with sense. |
