Applied Research On The Application Of Traditional Straw Arts In The Design Of Henan Tourist Souvenir Bags

The long cultural history of Henan traditional straw arts can trace back to fourhundreds years ago. Ming Wanli, Henan people had already started weavingstraw ropes. Straw products started to serve people in their daily lives. Recently,the rise of industrial productions, new materials and new technology make thestraw products losing their mainstream status. This thesis starts from thetraditional straw arts, makes the research on the need of contemporary touristmarket, and tries to make a tourist souvenir design which combines the localculture with the contemporary characteristics.The object of this paper is Henan straw plaited articles. It analyzes the historyand current status of Henan straw plaited articles. This paper proposes theheritage, creative ways and methods of straw arts crafts in contemporary design.Firstly, it summarizes the artistic characters, histories, classification, and basiccrafts of straw articles, and discusses the traditional straw articles’ artisticcharacteristics from the beauty of arts, crafts and materials. At the same time,based on the field research, it elaborates the current status and difficulties ofHenan straw arts crafts. From the analysis of traditional straw crafts’ artisticcharacteristics, this paper finds out the possibility of the combination of strawcrafts with Henan tourist souvenir. Based on this thought, this paper presents thedesign idea of traditional straw crafts. At last, it focuses on the specific use ofstraw crafts in the design of Henan tourist souvenir from their material, patterns,models and colors. It expands the application of traditional straw arts andprovides the theoretical evidence of their use in the design of Henan touristsouvenirs. It enriches the species of Henan tourist souvenirs and adapts to thedevelopment of diversified market.Finally, I hope that the research on the subject which can be the traditionalstraw passed on in modern design, and combined with the Henan tourist souvenirdesign of bag,to create an art of traditional folk,and crafts unique tourist souvenirs.
