Onomatopoeia is a special kind of vocabulary which is using to imitate naturalsounds. Most languages in the world have onomatopoeia. It is closely related tohuman life. There are plenty of onomatopoeias in Chinese. They are irreplaceable inactual communication. As a symbolic language, onomatopoeia has its owncharacteristics. Because of its specificity, the ontology research of onomatopoeia isnot deep enough. And the results can’t use in the teaching process directly. Therefore, how to improve the teaching process became a necessary topic for discussion. Basedon this, the author collected and studied227onomatopoeia from “Modern ChineseDictionary”(the sixth edition). Combine with teaching experience and the study of theerrors from “HSK dynamic composition corpus”, the author came up with someteaching strategies. The whole paper includes five chapters. The first chapter is foreword. Analyze the research purpose, meaning, preciousstudies, range, research methods and corpus sources of onomatopoeia. The second chapter is a description of the characters of onomatopoeia. Mainlydiscusses the characters by study the accent, words, phrases, pragmatics and thedeveloping of onomatopoeia. This chapter is a focal point of the whole paper. I usedata statistics and example analyzing methods, based on the previous studies todemonstrate my viewpoints of onomatopoeia’s characters. The third chapter analyzes the teaching situation of onomatopoeia and learners’error analysis. Based on my related teaching experiences Summarizes the learners’errors in onomatopoeia’s writing, accent and semantics. At the same time, gives someteaching strategies. The fourth chapter is a description of onomatopoeia classification. In this chapter, there are some innovations of the paper. The previous studies of onomatopoeiaweren’t well used in teaching Chinese as a second language. I classified theonomatopoeia into different kinds and described the usage of it, gave examples of how to use onomatopoeia in specific contexts. The vocabulary amount ofonomatopoeia is large and complicated. So I concludes the onomatopoeia appeared in“Higher Foreign Students Chinese Language Syllabus” and “Words and Charactersfor Chinese Proficiency Level Outline”.The fifth chapter is a conclusion.
