As one of the important types of interpretation, consecutive interpretation plays a decisive role in the development and study of contemporary interpretation. With the deepening of globalization and advance of China’s reform and opening up, countries have become more connected in political affairs, commercial and cultural exchange. Therefore, consecutive interpretation is now widely adopted in international communication, which requires a high demand both on interpreting and interpreters. A competent interpreter should plunge into learning and studying consecutive interpretation. Based on the observing and analyzing interpreting practice, Interpretive Theory of Translation, as the first systematic theory on interpretation, is instructive and meaningful to the practice and study of interpreting practice. On the basis of introducing characteristics and standards of consecutive interpretation, guided by the core concept of Interpretive Theory of Translation, de-verbalization and its translation procedure, and incorporated with research products of de-verbalization and C-E interpretation at home and broad, this thesis probes into interpreting techniques for de-verbalization in C-E consecutive interpretation and introduces amplification, omission, conversion and interpolation by analyzing the mock consecutive interpreting of Mo Yan’s Speech at Swedish Academy, so as to tackle the difficulties in the interpreting process and achieve the communication purpose in interpreting, offering useful reference for future interpreting practice.
