Quotation is indispensable in language usage, especially it occupies a large proportion in several reading materials, which directly affect many Chinese language learners’reading speed and efficiency. In real life, it is very important for us to understand other peoples’words and then successfully translate them into our own words. Chinese language learners can improve their learning efficiency by employing the skill of quotation paraphrase in the process of Chinese language learning. Therefore, quotation learning is also one of the key point of Chinese language teaching in teaching Chinese as the second language. There are very few studies of Chinese quotation’s error analysis in the field of second language acquisition."Turning direct quotation into indirect quotation" is not only the key point, but also the difficult point in grammar teaching. In consideration of direct quotation and indirect quotation’s important influences to reading and communication competence, also in light of few exclusive studies of turning direct quotation into indirect quotation in the Chinese as the second language teaching circle, I think that it is necessary to do further investigations and analysis of error making in the process of foreign students’Chinese quotation transformation. This thesis compares the direct quotation and indirect quotation and the transformational rules between Chinese language and Japanese language in grammatical level, finds out their similarities and differences. Then, through the questionnaire survey of Japanese foreign students in different learning stages, this paper also counts up various errors making in the process of turning Chinese direct quotation into indirect quotation, analyzes the reasons of the errors. Therefore, we can lay much emphasis on it in teaching and then help students to improve their reading competence and transformational competence in real life. This thesis is composed of five parts. Chapter One mainly illustrates the study cause, meaning topics and the researches about quotation at home and abroad. Chapter Two does some comparative analysis about the marks of direct quotation, the composition of the guide language, quotation composition and the structure of direct quotation between Chinese language and Japanese language. Chapter Three first makes some comparisons between the Chinese indirect quotation structure and the Japanese ones, then compares the transformational rules between Chinese and Japanese quotation in the aspects of grammatical person, word of time and space, modal particles and genre, last compares the quotation transformation among the four main sentence categories, finds out the Chinese and Japanese transformational formats. Through the data of questionnaire surveys, Chapter Four sums up the errors easily made in the Japanese students’quotation acquisitions, which are disordering, omission, addition. On the basis of comparison between Chinese quotation and Japanese quotation, it analyzes the reasons of errors, and puts forwards relative teaching strategy. Chapter Five summarizes the whole thesis.
