This is a English-Chinese translation report of Tsunami Public Awareness andEducation Strategy for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions. Functional Equivalencetheory is the theoretical guidance of this translation report. In theory, translation is areproduction of the source text with the help of the most appropriate, natural andequivalent words making semantic and literary sense. The Functional Equivalencetheory focuses on the functional equivalence between two languages rather than therigid corresponding on words so as to equalize the reader’s understanding towards thetranslated version with that of the original reader to the original text. The translationproject is divided into four chapters: Chapter One gives an overall introduction toproject background, significance and structure. Chapter Two gives an analysis of themain content and language characters of the source text. Chapter Three focuses ondifficulties and methods used in the translation process. Chapter Four summarizes thetranslation report by elaborating on adopted enlightenment, difficulties anddeficiencies in the translation process.
