Analysis Of Press Conference Interpreting Strategies In View Of Context Theory

With the development of political and economic reform and opening, China’s international status has been improving rapidly. The increasingly frequent political, economical, cultural cooperation and communication between nations have set up a new prospect for press conference interpreting. Various official authority press conferences have attracted international attention widely. The interpreter plays the role as "mouthpiece" in the press conference, and without a high-quality "mouthpiece", the communication between the two sides is groundless conversation. Therefore, to study Chinese official press conference interpretation is necessary under the background of globalization and the enhancement of Chinese-foreign exchanges.Context is a very important factor in interpretation. It’s significant and practical to study official press conference from the respect of context theory. The researches on the context theory by Chinese and foreign academic circles are not in-depth at present, in addition, they have not agreed conclusion. Using the context theory to analyze the interpretation is a new perspective. Context theory holds that the translator should start from the the context of language which included discourse structure, scene scope and cultural context in order to make the expression of target language accurate.This thesis reviews the development of context theory at home and abroad and gradual development and application to interpretation research. The official press conference interpreting strategies in the relevant content are presented in the thesis which takes as examples the press conference answered by Li Keqiang, the prime minister of China in the light of context theory from linguistic context, situational context and cultural context. This thesis aims to provide a reference for interpreting practice.
