Fathoming the Cosmos and Ordering the World: The Yijing(I-Ching,or Classic of Changes)and It's Evolution in China is written by Richard J.Smith,a contemporary American sinologist. The author reveals with many vivid examples of the richness, diversity, vitality, and complexity of traditional Chinese thought. In the process, the author explains a number of time-honored interpretive binaries that have adversely affected our understanding of the Yijing——most notably the sharp distinction between the "school of images and numbers"(xiangshu)and the "school of meanings and principles"(yili).Under the guidance of Skopos, faithfulness and coherence, the author translates chapter three, hoping to improve translation skills and draw attention of Chinese scholars who study cultural communication between China and the western countries to this book.Under the guidance of the three principles of Skopos Theory——skopos rule, coherence rule, fidelity rule, the author achieves the purpose of this translation by amplification,omission,part-of-speech conversion,four-character phrase, combination and division techniques.Considering the language features of philosophical texts, the author tries to finish the translation task carefully. And the essay discussed the three principles of Skopos Theory through rich analysis cases. The results show that the three principles of Skopos Theory of translation have a strong guiding role in the translation of philosophical texts.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory, the quality of translation can be improved and the purpose of faithfulness and fluency of philosophical texts can beachieved.Besides language expression ability and translation skills, the translator should also improve cultural translation awareness.
