Automatic mechanical transmission (AMT) has the advantages of low cost and high efficiency. It can utilize the existing production equipment of manual gearbox, and is suitable for China’s national conditions. As manual gearbox, power interruption will take place during the shifting process and impact may occur while the AMT clutch engaging. As connects the engine and gearbox, it plays a significant role of coordinating the torque and rotation speed, which has important influence on the comfort and the service life of the vehicle. To curtail the duration of the interruption and reduce the impact, it is necessary to research and optimize the control strategy of clutch.This paper introduces the composition and software structure of AMT control system, and obtains the relationship between the displacement and the pressing force according to the load-displacement of diaphragm spring. Tben, establish the engine model, the clutch model, and the clutch control model and carry out three conditions of simulation using MATLAB/Simulink.In order to verify the actual effect of control strategy, four conditions of real vehicle tests are conducted. The test results show that the control strategy can make the car launch and shift smoothly and quickly.
