The Rockefeller Foundation was founded in1913. After a century’s development, the Foundation has played an important role in U.S. diplomacy. In the international activities, the Foundation outputs the value of American freedom and democracy to other countries by its unique way, which helps eliminate the misunderstanding of the United States and improve its international image at the same time. In addition, Rockefeller Foundation’s international activities also propagate American hegemony and protect the national interests of the United States in some extent.The paper consists of three parts.The first part discusses the overview of the Rockefeller foundation. At first, the purpose of the Rockefeller foundation, its organization, donation projects, and the application procedures will be introduced. Then the paper will elaborate the reason of Rockefeller Foundation’s establishment from the following three aspects respectively:the material basis, the social background and the Christian traditional ideas.The second part goes to the international activities of the Rockefeller foundation. The paper will give full particulars of the whole process of the foundation participating in U.S. diplomacy in the20th century. While keeping close contact with US government, the Foundation also maintains its independence as an NGO. All its donating activities own international characteristics.As to the third part, the role of the Rockefeller Foundation in the U.S. diplomacy will be given highly priority.The Foundation spreads the American values such as freedom, democracy in the process of implementing American culture. What’s more, it also serves as the U.S. government’s think-tank. The Foundation advises for American foreign policy, which protects the interests of the United States and propagates hegemony of the United States in the world in certain extent. Meanwhile, the Rockefeller Foundation chooses China as the first place to invest overseas project. It has produced important influences on the development of Sino-US relations.
