As an indispensable part of teaching and learning, homework is closely related to classroom learning and teaching. In fact, homework plays an important role to extend and consolidate what have been learned in the classroom. What’s more, homework helps to train and improve learners’abilities of self-study, as wel1as the abilities of cooperation and practicing. Particularly, homework effectively develops the comprehensive and high qualities of the learners.However, the current situation on homework design and evaluation is far from satisfactory. As for opinion, some teachers pay much more attention on the learners’ grades rather than their body and cognition. As for content, practicing reading skills for exams is considered rather than improving their writing abilities. As for forms, learners are asked to repeat and copy knowledge mechanically instead of effectively reading and writing. Besides, homework is designed unclearly and no systemic instead of considering the level of the learners during the learning process. The study on homework design, especially the Junior School Chinese homework design has not been achieved. Though many teachers have tried some methods, they are not a system and still unsatisfactory. All these pile up to the blind spots on Chinese homework design and evaluation. Therefore, it is quite crucial and necessary for the Chinese teachers to do further research on related theories and scientific and systemic teaching practice, in order to promote the homework qualities and as well as guide Chinese teachers to design and evaluate homework much more scientifically and systematically.Based on most advanced theories including the theory of Multiple Intelligences, Constructivism, Learning by doing, Zone of proximal development and the theory of new curriculum, the thesis succeeds to develop and renew the traditional design and evaluation of Junior School Chinese homework, to introduce and analyses the advanced experience from China and other countries. What’s more, considering the author’s teaching practice, the thesis focuses on the research about the whole process of homework design and evaluation. Besides, the thesis provides practical and effect ive methods of homework design according to the general principles, that is to be learners centered; to promote learners’development; to be scientific and the specific ones such as outstanding language practice, being life-oriented and comprehensive. The thesis also illustrates measures based on learners’features of cognition and mind, the process of knowledge gaining, the development of abilities and thinking ways. Therefore, learners are able to solve the probl ems they have, to renew their former knowledge, to show themselves and thus to develop themselves while they are finishing their homework. In fact,that is the essence of homework and the aims of designing homework. The thesis also mentions some types of homework such as reading homework, writing homework, oral-practicing homework and comprehensive homework based on the ideas of the new curriculum. Finally, the thesis look forward to the prospect of Junior School Chinese Language homework and makes some suggestions as well.
